The School of Recreation, Health, and Tourism (SRHT) offers exciting, career-ready majors in dynamic fields such as athletic training, tourism and events management, health and physical education, kinesiology, sport management, and recreation management. SRHT features renowned faculty, cutting-edge research, six laboratories and centers, and a diverse student body of more than 1,000 undergraduate and graduate students each year. Each major requires one or more internship or clinical experiences, ensuring that students graduate not just with a transcript but with a resume that demonstrates their professional aptitude and skills.

Understanding the learning needs of each student, including English language learners and students with learning disabilities should be part of every teacher’s toolkit.

The Master’s in Education Program

Our international education programs are part of the Teaching Culturally, Linguistically Diverse & Exceptional Learners master’s degree program at Mason. This M.Ed. is a 30-36 credit program which includes one of four tracks below for international educators. The M.Ed. serves at the introduction and capstone Through each of our four international tracks below you will earn the credential or advanced training you desire while gaining a foundation in language, literacy, differentiation, and collaboration that international educators need to be successful.

Initial Teacher Licensure Options

Want to earn your full, professional post-graduate professional teaching license? Are you living and working overseas or want to find a teaching position around the world? Our program combines high quality teaching preparation programs with convenient schedules and small class sizes to help you achieve your goals. The graduate certificate programs below can be combined with the M.Ed. in Teaching Culturally Linguistically Diverse & Exceptional Learners or enrolled in separately. Over 90% of our graduates earn a full-time teaching position before they graduate!

International Elementary Education

  • Learn from leading faculty and researchers in international elementary education
  • Hybrid online schedule including face-to-face intensive summer classes (end of June – July)
  • Evening schedule for individuals who are living in the U.S.
  • Earn your teaching license in as little as 18 months while completing a full master’s degree

International ESOL Education

  • Most courses are offered online allowing you to live and work overseas

International Special Education

  • Entirely online graduate certificate courses
  • Focused specifically on international and diverse classrooms worldwide
  • Hybrid M.Ed. courses allow you to combine ESL and Special Education into one master’s program

Advanced International Baccalaureate Education

  • One of only a dozen universities worldwide authorized to provide education for International Baccalaureate teachers or prospective teachers
  • Entirely online graduate certificate courses; hybrid courses for the M.Ed.
  • Earn credentials from the International Baccalaureate Organization (IBO) – Certificate in Teaching & Learning or the Advanced Certificate in Teaching & Learning
