School of Education - George Mason University

Data are powerful. With coursework in research methodology, you will learn how to leverage data to create change. Learn to tell a story with data from research participants’ educational experiences, perspectives, and outcomes using qualitative, quantitative, and mixed methods. Our program will prepare you to formulate consequential research questions, select appropriate research design and evaluation methods, construct measurement tools, and learn innovative methods to collect high-quality data. Our expert faculty will teach you to understand and apply contemporary analysis methods and interpret data to inform decision-making. Data analysis skills are highly marketable and can apply to diverse careers.

Our courses can be applied to a Graduate Certificate in Research Methods which has three different concentration options, Qualitative Methods, Applied Quantitative Methods, and Anti-Racist and Decolonizing Research. These graduate certificates are open to students already admitted to any specialization or concentration in the PhD in Education and Human Development program as well as to interested individuals outside of these programs. The Research Methods specialization within the PhD in Education program is designed for students who want to gain knowledge and skills in research methods and apply these skills to any research area within the field of education.
