Concentration in English as a Second Language (CISL)
The English as a Second Language PK-12 initial licensure program with an optional master's degree component prepares candidates with the knowledge, skills, and professional dispositions needed to meet the educational needs of culturally and linguistically diverse populations. It is appropriate for candidates seeking a state teaching license in ESL PK-12.
Concentration in Foreign Language (CIFL)
The Foreign Language and Latin (PK-12) initial licensure program with an optional master's degree component provides professionals with the specialized knowledge, skills, and professional dispositions needed to meet the educational needs of students attending today's schools. The program prepares prospective educators seeking licensure as teachers of world languages (Arabic, Chinese, French, German, Japanese, Russian, Spanish, or Latin) in schools that serve preschool through grade twelve students.
Concentration in Multilingual and Multicultural Education (CIMM)
The MEd in Multilingual/Multicultural Education (CIMM) program prepares professionals to work with a diverse population of students. It provides training for licensed teachers and an add-on endorsement in English as a Second Language (ESL) PK-12. The program is also appropriate for individuals who are interested in multilingual/multicultural education but who do not wish to obtain a teaching license.

English as a Second Language PK-12 initial licensure program certificate
The English as a Second Language PK-12 initial licensure program certificate prepares candidates with the knowledge, skills, and professional dispositions needed to meet the educational needs of culturally and linguistically diverse populations. It is appropriate for candidates seeking a state teaching license in ESL PK-12.
English as a Second Language (ESL/ESOL)/Special Education Graduate Certificate (ELSE
This Certificate is for teachers seeking cross-over training in ESL and Special Education. The certificate is open to in-service teachers only. A core of six courses is required: 3 courses in ESL and 3 courses in Special Education. The coursework may help satisfy add-on licensure requirements in either field; however licensure would require additional coursework as determined by the Virginia Department of Education (VDOE).
