Policy Connections and Center Initiatives

Bowen Lecture Series. The Center for Education Policy sponsors up to four education policy lectures each year. These lectures are named for the founding Dean of the Graduate School of Education, Larry Bowen. Previous speakers have included Stanley Pogrow, Chester E. Finn, Jr., Carl Grant, Luby Ismail, Delia Pompa, Karen Narasaki, Marilyn Cochran-Smith, Joan DelFattore, Bernard Spolsky, and Christopher Cross.

Issue Forums. Watch this site for information on education Issue Forums to begin in 2004.

Virtual Schools Policy Advisory Board. The Graduate School of Education, in cooperation with three Northern Virginia School districts, established a virtual high school, The Online Academy, using a curricular framework based on the state's Standards of Learning. The work of a Policy Advisory Board to this project is coordinated through the Center for Education Policy.

International Journal of Educational Policy and Leadership (IJEPL), Penelope Earley & Dan Laitsch, Editors.

IJEPL is an open access refereed electronic journal dedicated to enriching the education policy and leadership knowledge base, and promoting exploration and analysis of policy alternatives. The journal is a joint publication of the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development (ASCD), the Center for Educational Policy in the College of Education and Human Development at George Mason University, and the faculty of Education at Simon Fraser University.
